A stuttering school master with a squint refused another front-facing photograph
A limping sore Gaeilgeoir hobbled across country bog door to door
An affluent poet with TB gave all so we might be free
As a frail unassuming shop owner counted bricks for 15 years to fill Dublin with smoke
Oh the likes of such men:
Leaders in the eyes of all Irish people
For poet or teacher is what they shall seek:
Certainly not some Ancient Greek!
So, who will they follow?
(yesterday, today and tomorrow)
